Bunny and the Strange Sound

Bunny is scared of almost everything—rustling bushes, sudden sounds, even the wind in the trees. One afternoon, after all his friends tease him for being so fearful, a very strange noise echoes through the forest and sends them running in fright. When Bunny discovers that the “monster” is actually Fox playing a funny, loud trombone, everyone learns that being scared is something all animals feel—and that it’s not something you can just switch off because someone tells you to.

We learn through play. Any answer is okay.

Answer the questions:
  • How did Bunny feel when the animals kept telling him not to be scared?
  • How did the animals feel when Bunny told them he’d seen the “monster”?
  • Are you scared of anything?
Imagine:
  • If Fox hadn’t been playing the trombone, how would the story have ended?
  • If Bunny hadn’t been hungry and gone back to the animals, what would have happened?
  • How did the trombone end up in the forest?
What do you think:
  • What was Mole doing before coming to the snack?
  • What did Fox do when she went home?
  • What did the trombone think while Fox was playing it?

  1. “I’m old—once I was a tree, but now Fox sits on me.”
  2. “I have long ears, and I often get scared.”
  3. “I make music, but if you hear me from far away, you might get scared.”
